We are getting ready to start a new year. It’s always a great time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. Are you where you thought you would be at this time? If not, why not? Did you have a plan to get you where you wanted to go or what you wanted to accomplish?
Having a plan is important. Whether it’s a plan on how to increase sales, attain a new skill, self-improvement, retirement or getting ready for an adventure. A goal without a plan is nothing more than a dream.
“If you are failing to plan, you are planning to fail.” Tariq Siddique
Take something as simple as wanting to go on a vacation. You can just state, “I want to go on a vacation this year”, and it may, or may not, happen. It’s more likely to happen if you develop a plan:
- Where do you want to go?
- When do you want to go?
- Where will you stay?
- How long will you stay?
- How will you get there?
- Who will go with you?
- What activities do you want to do while you are there?
- Do you need additional financial resources to be able to take the vacation you want? If so, where will those financial resources come from?
Having the answers to these questions will help you accomplish the goal of taking that vacation.
Success just doesn’t happen. Having no plan “is like leaping off a precipice and trying to knit yourself a parachute on the way down.” ― Kelli Jae Baeli
So, take the next few days and think about where you want to be, and what you want to have accomplished, at this time next year. Pick a few goals and then make a plan so that they just won’t be a dream that didn’t come true, but an actual accomplishment of which you can be proud!
