Another Postage Increase?
The U.S. Postal Service filed May 3 for an average 8.5 percent rate increase. For business mailers, this could mean postage increases of 7 to 18 percent, based on averages for various mail classes. If approved, the rates should take effect by June or July 2007.
So are less companies utilizing direct mail? Not according to the Postmaster General. Direct mail volume rose to a record 212 billion pieces in 2005. Contrary to predictions that postal mail would be in steep decline because of e-mail growth, direct mail is being used in tandem with Internet advertising. The reason? Measurable success.
